A snacking table for grown ups?

Um, yes please. Seriously, this has got to be my favorite food trend that has ever existed. Who doesn't love to snack? Meats, cheeses, veggies, berries, chocolate hummus.... ahhh. As a mom of 3 kiddos who are on summer vacation, I feel like snacks are all I am thinking about lately. Unfortunately it is a lot harder to get them to see the beauty of eating veggies as a snack, but we are working on it.

At first glance, a grazing table can seem a little intimidating. I mean, where do you even start at? And why do they call it a grazing table? Does anyone else's mind go directly to cows in a pasture? And what about that fancy name, charcuterie. Not going to lie, it may have taken me months to actually say that correctly. Once I got it down though, I can assure you I said it way too many times to show off my new skill. Anyways, there may be some technical difference between a grazing table and charcuterie, what they are, and what they include. But, I am not writing about that today. I am just here to say, that whatever it is, IT IS AWESOME.

I love the look, the feel, the smells, the whole experience of seeing so many delicious foods carefully and delicately displayed. There is definitely an art to create an epic grazing table. Order, design, balance, But, you my friend, can do it!

Here are 8 things you need to get started:

1. Veggies

- cucumbers, carrots, celery, cherry tomoatoes, peppers (they add some great color)

2. Fruits

-strawberries, cherries, orange slices, whole pomegranates (for some added flair) cantaloupes, blackberries, blueberries, apples, pears, and lots of grapes (keep your grapes on the vine as they can be great filler pieces)

3. Meats

- prosciutto, salami, ham slices, pepperoni, sopressata (Aldis has an awesome selection and even prepares them presliced for you)

4. Cheese

-ALL THE CHEESE, ANY KIND OF CHEESE. Literally you can't go wrong here, but my favorites are: Goat cheese, Aged white cheddar, Manchego, Brie, Blue cheese wedge, and then just any handmade Artisan cheese (again, Aldis for the win here, they have amazing Roasted garlic with tomato & basil artisan cheese)

5. Bread/crackers

- Baguette, French, Rye, Ciabatta, pita chips, breadsticks, Triscuits, pretzels, etc.

6. Dips and spreads

- Hummus, chocolate hummus, spinach dip, pesto, onion dip

7. Olives &

8. Nuts

Now all you need is a table, some good music, and an even better friend to help you cut everything up:) (My least favorite part)

Arranging the table:

To start, butcher block paper is your absolute best friend for a grazing table. The paper takes away the need to have a plate or a board for each item. I do like to arrange my meats and cheeses on boards and then lay my fruits out on the table.

Here is my method:

- Arrange meats and cheeses close together on cutting boards or any kind of board. You can roll the meats, or stack them. They will literally be devoured in the first 5 minutes, so don't sweat it too much.

- Place nuts in separate bowls, as well as your dips, and spreads. Spread these bowls out across the table. If you have a store bought spread (no judgement here), just remember to transfer it out of the plastic container to something a little fancier.

- I like to cut up some of the bread and also leave some whole baguettes on the table for some extra texture. I love the look of a fresh loaf of bread. Spread out your crackers, and bread near a corresponding dip that would pair well.

- Veggies and fruits are great fillers to add color all throughout the table. So get creative and let your eye tell you where a pop of color needs to be.

- I always save the grapes for last. I love to arrange big clusters throughout the table, and fill in any gaps or bare spots that look skimpy.

- And for the grand finale, I always add some fresh greens, eucalyptus, or fresh flowers to add in. The details make such a big difference and communicate an extra sense of charm, importance, and elegance to the table!

And that my friends, is basically it. Once you try it, you will be hooked and looking for any excuse to hold a party. As much as I love designing these tables and letting my creative side go a little wild, my absolute favorite part is getting to see people connect around the table.

There is something special and intimate about sharing a table with someone else. Whether that is sitting down, or grazing around, sharing a meal with someone creates connection. And that is what I love. That is what we all need. We need something that goes a lot deeper than a casual conversation, and a quick drive through meal.

A table allows for deeper talks, belly laughs, shared interests, meaningful conversations, and an opportunity to be known. And I know, that is something that we all crave more than what is on that table.

So, grab my shopping list, grab some friends, and get grazing. You will be filled.

Thanks for being here.
